Ayatollah shaykh Muhammad Reza Mahdawi Keni

One of eminent and well-known scholars and thinkers of the Hawzah.Today he is the head of Imam Sadiq(a.s.) University.

Biography

He was born in 1931 in the village of (Ken) north-west Tehran. Having finished the primary school in 1945, he entered Sepahsalar school (or recently called "Shahid Mutahhari"), then Lurzadeh school (whose headmaster was Mr. Burhan), where he studied for three years.

When he became 18 years old, and to continue his study, he migrated to Qom and began studying the high level stage and benefitted from the knowledge of Ayatollah Mujahidi, shaykh Abdul Jawad Jabal`amili, Sultani Tabataba'i, Najafi Mar`ashi, and shahid Sadouqi. He also learned Philosophy and rational sciences from Ayatollah Murtadha Mutahhari.

After that he began to study the Kharij stage on Fiqh and Usoul with Ayatollah Uzma Boroujerdi (for five years), and Ayatollah Imam Khomeini (for nine years). He returned to Tehran in 1961 after Ayatollah Boroujerdi's death and began to teach in the Hawzah of Marwi.

Ayatollah Keni is one of the founders of Imam Sadiq(a.s.) University. Today he is the head of the said university although he is teaching in the hawzah of Marwi.
