Do you feel that the religion of Islam has been the oppressed or the oppressor in the past centuries of its existence? The religion of Islam has never been an oppressor. However, there have been many who have ruled in the name of Islam who have been oppressors. The entire Umayyad period can be clasified as an oppressive one if we use the Qur'an as a measuring stick with which to judge them. (The Umayyads provided (falsified) justification for the massacre of the Prophet's family. The surviving members were kept imprisoned for generations afterwards.) The political distortions of the Ummayad time have, in some ways, been propagated right down to our present day. By and large it is Muslims themselves (not non-Muslims) who have suffered the most under such rulers.

However, the existence of a forged gold coin means that a pure gold coin also exists. Misuse of religion, in is no way an argument against religion. Rather we have to do away with the forgeries and endeavour to re-discover the truth.

In our current times, Islam is clearly the oppressed. Whether in places like Bosnia, or within many Muslim countries where any true implementation of Islam would be a threat to the ruling elites.
